Municipal and County Projects

City of Charlotte – Mecklenburg County Topographic Mapping Program – 2006-2007 - Two Year Contract
This project initially involved flight planning and control layout for 33 sheets for topographic mapping. The control layout was planned using existing county control along with several new points that were positioned for the City of Charlotte Survey Group to provide the control surveys. After the project was controlled and flown for the specified area of coverage the analytical aerotriangulation process starts. This process verifies the ground control as well as the photogrammetric control of the individual photogrammetric models. After successful completion of the triangulation the mapping work begins. Once the mapping is complete the project is edited to meet the City of Charlotte Specifications for Topographic Mapping. David Snider and Fal Watters with the City of Charlotte are familiar with our contract and quality of work.

Impervious Surfaces Shapefiles – 2008. Contract - $445,350.00

This project required using existing digital Orthophotography as provided by Mecklenburg County to digitize all impervious surfaces for private properties throughout the county. This required using two additional firms to provide the mapping. Keri Shearer with Storm Water Services is familiar with our contract and quality of work.

Mecklenburg County Building Footprint Shapefiles Update – 2005 & 2007
This project required using existing digital Orthophotography as provided by Mecklenburg County to digitize all building footprints and changing any deleted footprints to a historical layer to provide continuity of the footprint layer. Andy Goretti with Mecklenburg County is familiar with our contract and quality of work.

City of Charlotte – Mecklenburg County Topographic Mapping Program – 2004-2005 - Two Year Contract
This project involved flight planning and control layout for 43 sheets for topographic mapping. The control layout was planned using existing county control along with several new points that were positioned for the City of Charlotte Survey Group to provide the control surveys. After the project was controlled and flown for the specified area of coverage the analytical aerotriangulation process starts. This process verifies the ground control as well as the photogrammetric control of the individual photogrammetric models. After successful completion of the triangulation the mapping work begins. Once the mapping is complete the project is edited to meet the City of Charlotte Specifications for Topographic Mapping. David Snider, with the City of Charlotte and Andy Goretti, with Mecklenburg County are familiar with our contract and quality of work.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Department – Dewberry & Davis – Sanitary Sewer Trunk Line Manhole Acquisition – 2008-2010. Two Year Contract
This project involved flight planning and control layout for 75% coverage of Mecklenburg County suitable for one foot contour mapping accuracy. The control layout was planned using existing county control along with several hundred new points that were positioned by Dewberry’s Survey Group as well as Avioimage. After the project was controlled and flown for the specified area of coverage the analytical aerotriangulation process starts. This process verifies the ground control as well as the photogrammetric control of the individual photogrammetric models. We estimate that we have triangulated over 6000 low altitude models for mapping of utility features throughout Mecklenburg County. Most of the points were Photo Identifiable points that are photographed and referenced in our ARC Personal Geodatabase. These points can be used for future projects throughout the County. After successful completion of the triangulation the mapping work begins. We mapped over 7,500 sanitary sewer manholes to be included in the sanitary sewer modeling program. Once the mapping is complete the data is married to the field feature database and positions and inverts are established for all manholes. Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Department – ID Modeling – Water Meter Acquisition – 2009-2010 - Two Year Contract
This project involved using existing photography that was flown and controlled for the sanitary sewer manhole inventory project as well as flight planning and control layout for the remaining 25% coverage of Mecklenburg County suitable for one foot contour mapping accuracy. The control layout was planned using existing county control along with several hundred new points that will positioned by Dewberry’s Survey Group as well as Avioimage. After the project is controlled and flown for the specified area of coverage the analytical aerotriangulation process starts. This process verifies the ground control as well as the photogrammetric control of the individual photogrammetric models. We estimate that we have triangulated over 2500 low altitude models for mapping of utility features throughout Mecklenburg County. Most of the points were Photo Identifiable points that are photographed and referenced in our ARC Personal Geodatabase. These points can be used for future projects throughout the County. After successful completion of the triangulation the mapping work begins. We have mapped over 75,000 water meters to date with a total of over 200,000 to be mapped and included in the water modeling program and for facilities management and billing. There will be another effort for field completion for the meters that could not be mapped by aerial mapping. Union County GIS
County Orthophotography and Planimetric Mapping – Spatial Data and Avioimage – Avioimage was responsible for FAAT, County wide planimetric mapping – Edge of Pavement, Centerlines, Buildings with heights, Addressing Entire County. Completion Feb 2008.
